DR. PAUL JACOB
Dr. Paul Jacob, DO, FAAOS, FAAHKS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement and adult reconstruction in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His practice focuses on primary and revision joint replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, minimally invasive techniques and outpatient joint replacement.
Dr. Jacob completed his fellowship training in adult reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic, where he developed advanced expertise in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of hip and knee conditions. His highly specialised practice allows him to focus on helping patients with arthritis, joint degeneration and other conditions affecting mobility and quality of life.
SPECIALIZED CARE
SPECIALIZED HIP & KNEE REPLACEMENT CARE
Dr. Jacob provides comprehensive treatment for patients with painful or damaged hip and knee joints. His surgical expertise includes:
- Total hip replacement
- Robotic-assisted hip replacement
- Outpatient hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Partial knee replacement
- Robotic-assisted knee replacement
- Muscle-sparing knee replacement
- Revision hip and knee replacement
- Second opinions following previous joint replacement
When appropriate, Dr. Jacob also provides non-surgical treatment options for joint pain and arthritis. Each patient's treatment plan is based on their diagnosis, overall health, anatomy, activity goals and individual needs.
Extensive Experience with Robotic Joint Replacement
Robotic-assisted joint replacement is an important part of Dr. Jacob's practice. He has performed more than 4,000 robotic-assisted surgeries and offers Mako™ Robotic-Arm-Assisted technology for appropriately selected hip and knee replacement patients.
In 2022, Dr. Jacob became the first orthopaedic surgeon in Oklahoma to receive Surgical Review Corporation accreditation as a Master Surgeon in both Joint Replacement and Robotic Joint Replacement.
Robotic technology can assist with surgical planning and implant positioning, but it is not necessary or appropriate for every patient. Dr. Jacob evaluates each patient individually to determine which surgical approach and technology may provide the most appropriate solution.
Minimally Invasive & Outpatient Joint Replacement
Dr. Jacob has extensive experience with minimally invasive and recovery-focused approaches to hip and knee replacement. His practice offers outpatient joint replacement for appropriately selected patients, allowing some patients to return home on the day of surgery.
His approach extends beyond the operation itself. Patient education, preparation before surgery, rehabilitation and postoperative care are important components of the overall treatment process. The practice provides educational resources to help patients and their families understand what to expect before, during and after joint replacement.
A Unique Background in Physical Therapy & Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. Jacob's path to orthopaedic surgery began in physical therapy. He earned a master's degree in physical therapy and became a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist before pursuing medical training.
He subsequently earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and completed orthopaedic surgery residency training before completing his adult reconstruction fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
His background in physical therapy provides an additional perspective on movement, function and rehabilitation—important considerations when treating patients undergoing hip or knee replacement.
RESEARCH, EDUCATION & CONTINUED ADVANCEMENT
Dr. Jacob maintains an active interest in orthopaedic research and education. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
His involvement in research and professional education reflects his commitment to evaluating new techniques and technologies and advancing the field of joint reconstruction.
PATIENT-CENTRED JOINT REPLACEMENT CARE
Dr. Jacob believes that successful joint replacement involves more than the surgical procedure. Patients should understand their diagnosis, treatment options and expected recovery before making decisions about surgery.
His practice emphasises education, preparation and personalised treatment planning. Patients travelling from outside Oklahoma can also access resources designed to help coordinate their treatment and recovery.
The goal is to combine specialised surgical expertise and advanced technology with an individualised approach to help patients return to greater mobility and the activities they value.
