Pre-op Checklist

  • Pick-up all rugs and any loose cords in your home to prevent a fall. Ensure clear pathways to the bathroom and kitchen
  • Plan a comfortable place in your home where you can sit with both your legs elevated the first few weeks following surgery.
  • Fit your bathroom with a raised toilet seat. This will be used for 4-6 weeks after your surgery.
  • Make a list of all your medications and bring them to your pre-op testing appointments.
  • Verify with your insurance company that you have coverage for your surgery.
  • Complete a Living Will or Power-of-Attorney to have on file
  • If postoperative care at a facility is necessary, we encourage you to visit 2 facilities to make sure you are comfortable with the environment and the care you will receive.
  • Eat light the week before surgery to help reduce the risk of postoperative constipation. Increase fluids and fiber in your diet as well.
  • Quit smoking.
  • If you are provided them, use the Skin Prep Cloths per the instructions you will be given during Pre-admission testing
  • Remove all jewelry, body piercings, makeup, contact lenses, and nail polish on the day of surgery.
  • Have a check-up with your dentist to make sure all your dental needs are taken care of before surgery. No elective dental work is advised for 3 months after surgery.
  • Please notify the office if you have any active dental problems, as these may increase your risk of infection.

What to bring to the hospital:

    • A full set of loose fitted clothing to accommodate postoperative swelling
    • Personal toiletries
