We hope the information given within this aid will help you better understand the risks and benefits of joint replacement surgery. This decision aid has been designed using the National Joint Registry (NJR) to help you understand your own risks from surgery using information from people like you.
We will need to know a few things about you in order to calculate the risks and benefits of surgery you are considering. If you have previously undergone an operation for a joint replacement, the calculated risk may not be as accurate.
If there is anything that you don’t understand after working through the aid, please discuss the options further with your doctor, physician assistant, or nurse navigator.
Please take a printout of the aid results for your consultation.
In order to continue, you will need to know:
- Your weight in pounds or kilograms
- Your height in either feet and inches or metres
- Your age in years
- Whether you are considering a knee or hip joint replacement
